About Local
Fennville
Our
first meeting was in Oct of 2010 at the Fennville Public Library.
The group was started by three local people: KoKo, Dana and Marilyn.
All three are active with the Transition
Van Buren Allegan parent group. The first meeting was attended
by about 14 people and subsequent meetings have had increasing attendance,
with new people coming along.
We
plan to meet regularly on the first Thursday of each month. In addition
working groups are forming that meet at various times.
One
of the best things about attending meetings is getting to know our
neighbors who are like minded, and many are already preparing for
energy descent. At the Feb. 3, 2011 meeting and March 2012 we had
an informal seed exchange that was tons of fun. We save money on
seeds by collecting and sharing. Also, we help promote heirloom,
virile seeds and biodiversity.

We
used immense amounts of creativity, ingenuity and adaptability on
the way up the energy upslope, and so there's every reason for us
to do the same on the downslope.

That
we have to act now, rather than wait for the government or "someone
else"
|
If
we collectively plan and act early enough there's every likelihood
that we can create a way of living that's significantly more connected,
more vibrant and more in touch with our environment than the oil-addicted
treadmill that we find ourselves on today.
|
Our
central survival task for the decades ahead, as individuals and
as a species, must be to make a transition away from the use of
fossil fuels – and to do this as peacefully, equitably, and
intelligently as possible”.
